Ernest J. Vail Jr, 91, of Walton passed away on Thursday evening, October 30, 2014 at Delaware Valley Hospital, following a long illness.

Ernest was born on November 10, 1922 in Walton the son of the late Ernest J. and Nellie (Sprague) Vail Sr. He was a graduate of Walton high School, class of 1940. He proudly served his country as staff sargent in the 76th Fighter Squadron, Army Air Force during WWII. On September 14, 1946 he married the former Betty Wakeman in Walton. He worked for many years as a Linotype Operator for the Walton Reporter in Walton.

Ernest is survived by his loving family, his wife, Betty, his children, Gary and Susan Vail of Windsor, NY; Pamela and Mickey Armstrong of Alton, VA; his grandchildren, Julie Vail and Greg Niss; Chyanne and James Prevette, Tasha and Craig Conner, Kelly and Mike DiRossi; Dallas and Russell Eckard, Kiley and Tony Owen; his great-grandchildren, Jasper, Jessica, and Jenna Prevette, Alton, Va; Dakoda and Jordan Conner, Forest, VA; Holly, Dusty, and Johnny Eckard, Ringgold, VA; Kenzie, Joel, and Jayke Owen, South Boston, VA; Adam DiRossi, Ellicott City, MD; a sister in law, Violet Vail, Texas; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Willard Vail.

Friends and relatives are in invited to call on Sunday afternoon, November 2, 2014 from 2 to 3 PM at the First Congregational Church, 4 Mead St., Walton where services will be held at 3 PM with Dr. Janet Schwengber, officiating. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
