Ernest W. Valentine, 85 of Delhi passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015 following a long illness at home, surrounded by his family.
Ernie was born in Walton on August 24, 1929 the son of the late Ernest A. and Lena Ostrander Valentine. He graduated from Walton High School the Class of 1947. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. On January 2, 1954 he married the former Clarice Nichols.
Ernie was employed as a Maintenance and HVAC tech at SUNY Delhi. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Delhi, and a life member of the Delhi American Legion, Post #190. In his spare time he enjoyed bowling and golfing and tending to the work around his home, which he built. Ernie will we remembered as a man who loved his family first and foremost.
Ernie is survived by his loving family, his wife of 61 years, Clarice, his children, Deborah and David Bolles of New Hampshire; Phyllis Valentine and Jim Rash of New Jersey; Ernest W. and Debra Valentine, Jr. ; his grandchildren, Kyle, Matthew, Brent, Rachel, Joseph, and Casey; his great-grandchildren, Daxtin, Lane, Maxwell, Elaina, Gordon, and Waylon; his brother, Carl and Barb Valentine of AZ; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his daughter, Valerie Stewart in 2007, his brother, Louis Valentine, his sisters, Barbara Hunt and Betty Moss.
Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, where services will be held on Friday morning at 11 AM, with the Rev. Bert More, officiating.
A graveside service with military honors will be held on Sunday, August 2, 2015 at 11:30AM at the Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton.
Memorial Contributions in Ernie's memory may be made to the Veterans Administration or the American Legion.
