Eugene Werner Bender, 90 from Walton NY, passed away August 27, 2024, at home.

Eugene was born on February 13, 1934, in New York to Eugene and Elsa Bender (Hamm). He grew up in Bad Wimpfen, Germany.

Eugene was a talented soccer player, representing New York City as part of the all-star team for two incredible years. His skills were even recognized on a national level when he received an invitation to try out for the United States Olympic National soccer team. He was also, a skilled carpenter by trade who built his home and supervised building many Grand Union supermarkets in NY and surrounding states

Eugene is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Hildegard Bender, Erika Panyard (David) of Newtown PA, Emily Panyard (Patrick Falvey) of Arlington VA, Owen Panyard of Newtown PA. Two Cousins Robert Hamm, and Kathy Sobel.

Calling hours to honor Eugene's life will be held at the Courtney Funeral Home on Saturday October 19, 2024 from 11AM-12PM.

A luncheon will follow the memorial service at St. John The Baptist Church Parish Hall adjacent to the church, located at 25 Benton Ave, Walton, NY.
