Obituary

Eve Madeline Litzler Markarian of Walton passed away on July 7, 2021. She was born on August 28, 1933 in Mulhouse, France to Emile Litzler and Wilhelmina Ernestine Reinbold.

Eve grew up in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France during World War 2, learning to make the most of what she had and the importance of family. She trained and became a certified seamstress in France prior to leaving all of her family at the age of 19 for the United States, only able to say "I don't speak English!" Eve attended night school to learn English where she also made some life-long friends. She became a U.S. citizen on March 17, 1958.

Eve and her husband Nazareth George Markarian met in New York City, eventually building a house outside of Delhi on Federal Hill 2, and moving upstate permanently in 1971.

Eve was a homemaker, seamstress, and later in life watched other children. She obtained her driver's license at the age of 55 and became a home health aide. Eve enjoyed assisting people in their homes, as well as cooking and cleaning so that people could continue to live in their homes as long as possible.

Family was always an integral part of Eve's life and she was happiest "on the hill" cooking a meal, spending time with family and beating anyone daring enough to play rummy with her. Eve also loved flowers and anything to do with animals from statues to watching the birds and animals outside. She eagerly awaited the arrival of hummingbirds each year.

Eve was predeceased by her parents, husband, three brothers: Alfred, Jean and Rene' Litzler; one sister Andree Keilwasser; sisters & brother-in-law: Gertrude Litzler, Marirose Litzler and Leo Mader; as well as a grandson Ryan Benson.

Survivors include her four children: Alice Benson (Robert) of Masonville, Stephen Markarian (Lore') of Bainbridge, Christina Wildenstein (Seth) of Walton, and Karen Teitelbaum (David) of Franklin; four grandchildren Adrienne Stamper (Eric) of Santa Rosa Beach-FL, Christopher Benson of Masonville, Zachary Wildenstein of Walton and Lucas Wildenstein of Otego; her sister Marie Mader of Kingersheim, France; brother-in-Law Gilbert Keilwasser of lllzach, France; as well as several nieces and nephews in France.

In keeping with Eve's wishes, there will be a private service at the convenience of the family.

Those wishing to do so may make memorial contributions in her name to the Heart of the Cats kills Humane Society, PO Box 88, Delhi, NY 13753.

Arrangements are under the direction of Courtney Funeral Home, Walton. To leave a message of peace and comfort for Eve's family, please visit her online tribute at www.courtneyfh.com
