Evelyn R. "Odie" Jackson, 91, passed away at the Oneonta Nursing and Rehab Center on Monday September 27, 2010.

Evelyn was born in Beerston, NY, on December 1, 1918. She married S. Graham Jackson on December 14, 1940, in East Branch, NY.

She is survived by five sons, W. Thomas and wife Sandra of Oneonta; David and wife Carol of Round Rock, Texas; Simon and wife Elizabeth of Walton; John and wife Karen of Walton; and James (Ellen) of Walton. She is also survived by fifteen Grandchildren; William, Jennifer (Michael), Sam (Rebecca), Jacqueline (Todd), Gunter, Donna, Mary, JoAnna (Russell), Todd (Adrienne), Reginald (Jennifer), James, Chad, Travis, Skylar and Megan. She is also survived by fourteen great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Caroline (Brown) and Ralph Lake; her ten brothers and sisters, Mamie, Howard, Agnes, Ernest, William, Charlotte, Anna, Mary, Richard and Kathleen; her husband S. Graham Jackson; two sisters- in- law, Marjorie Dutcher and Ida Graby and two great- grandchildren.

Evelyn was a remarkable woman. She and Graham raised Registered Holsteins for 46 years and received State and National awards and recognition for the quality of their cattle. Evelyn was responsible for raising the high quality calves which they often exhibited at fairs and sold to local 4-Hers. Evelyn was an outstanding cook and baker. She baked pies for the Rainbow lounge and cooked for the Walton American Legion for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Walton VFW and American Legion, Holstein- Friesian Association of America, Walton United Methodist Church, Beerston Pinochile Club and was a former member of the Beerston Church Ladies Aid Society.

Above everything else, Evelyn was a woman who helped everyone with no questions asked or expectation of returning the favor. The Jackson farmhouse on Southside River Road was a stopping place to get a cup of coffee, a bite to eat, or conversation, for many locals. Evelyn loved to play pinochile with her friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, September 30th from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM at Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM on Friday morning at the First United Methodist Church, 101 North St., Walton, with the Rev. Mark Del Guidice, officiating.
