Florence H. Mugglin, 104, a lifetime resident of Walton passed away Saturday afternoon, October 27, 2018 at home.

Florence was born on December 22, 1913 in Hamden, the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Edith (Miller) Hoyt. After graduating from the Abraham L. Kellogg School in Treadwell, NY she enrolled at Hartwick College from which she graduated, summa cum laude in 1934. She later obtained a master's degree from Syracuse University in 1959. After college , Florence taught in a one room school house for about 18 months when she interrupted her career to raise her family.. She resumed teaching at Walton central in 1955 where she taught junior high mathematics until she retired in 1975. She married Gustave F. Mugglin on September 21, 1934 at the Mundale United Presbyterian Church. He died on April 17, 2004. She was a longtime member of the OES, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority and the United Presbyterian Church, Walton where she sang alto in the church choir and served as Sunday School Superintendent for a term.

Florence is remembered by many of her former students as the only teacher they had who made math understandable. She loved teaching, western style square dancing, traveling to Europe twice and every US state at least once. She also loved the annual Mundale reunions of the Tweedie, Miller and Hoyt families. She also enjoyed living in Florida for 6 months each year for 25 years.

Florence is survived by her loving family, her children, Malcolm Mugglin, Lancaster, PA; Carl and Margaret Mugglin, Walton and Marsha and George Seeley, Bethel Park, PA; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; 2 great-greatgrandchildren; a brother, Bruce Hoyt, Oneonta; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The Mugglin family would like to thank the many caregivers of Florence over the years, especially Vicki Talbot and Melinda Woolsey, who took such good care, and gave much love to their mother. Florence was predeceased by her brothers, Walter, Hilton and Laurence Hoyt and sisters, Wilma Leach and Viola Potter and a daughter in law, Doris Mugglin.

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM on Friday, November 16, 2018 at the United Presbyterian Church, Walton with the Rev. Dr. Parrish Bridges, officiating. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
