Florence was employed by Dr. Walter Eells and his mother Carrie Eells Smith at Smith Hospital in Walton. Many local residents remember her as the cook for over 30 years. Florence maintained the kitchen and was always willing to give a helping hand in the delivery room or during an emergency. Dr. and Mrs. Eells always relied on her for their Sunday dinner of chicken and biscuits. When she first worked at the hospital she worked for over three months without a day off.
Frank, her husband, predeceased her in 1985. She was predeceased by sisters Jennie, Anna, Mabel, Leah, Eunice and Maggie and brothers David, Isaac and Edward Jacobson, a grandson David in 1997 and a daughter –in-law Irene (Jim) Northrup in 2002.
She is survived by; a sister Mary Jacobson Allen of Sidney Center, her six children and their families, daughter Elinor and Calvin Pritchard of Walton. Five sons and their families Howard (Neal) of Walton, Milton and Joyce of Sidney, Richard and Cecelia, James, Roger and Linda all of Walton. Also by 23 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 13 great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends, especially her friend Alma Pickett of Bloomville.
Her daughter, Elinor has resided with and shared many good times and most recently provided care for her at the family home on East Brook.
Florence always loved music and dancing. Her 91st birthday party was held in Walton with over 300 friends and family in attendance for dancing and camaraderie.
Her family members were always proud to receive her hand-crocheted afghans that she continued to make until her death. None of these stitches were done on Sunday as it was reserved as the Day of the Lord. Florence was a member of the Methodist Church in Walton for over 60 years. She was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. Florence was a member of the Oneonta WOT Moose, an active member of the dance clubs in Sidney and Oneonta and a past member of the Women's Relief Corp.
