Florence Wurfer, daughter
of Gould and Minnie
Dumond Gavette, went to
be with her Lord on the 13th
of January, 2008, she was
92. She had been a patient
at Beachtree Care Center
in Ithaca for two and a half
years.
She was born June
25, 1915, in Wallingford,
CT. She was married to
Robert Wurfer in Dec 1943,
who predeceased her
1957. She graduated from
Walton Central School in
1933. During WWII she
worked at Scint i l la in
Sidney. She moved to Apex
where she raised her
girls and lots of produce.
Later in life she moved to
Walton where she kept
many homes and
businesses clean. She
found joy in her family and
gardening. She took fresh
flowers from her gardens to
The First Baptist Church of
Walton every week, where
she was an active church
member. She was also
active in the Walton
Historical Society.
She was devoted to her sister Gladys Gavette who predeceased her in 1999 and she was also
predeceased by four half brothers and sisters: Mildred, Kenneth, Foster and Cecil. She
is survived by daughters Elaine and her husband Richard Saunders of Ithaca and Cheryle and her husband Scott Ostrander of Fish's Eddy, four grandchildren Rebecca
Brownell, Jodi Decker, Scott Ostrander and Sandra Saunders as well as five greatgrandchildren.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 from 1 to 3 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St. Walton. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 4 PM at the First Baptist Church, 55 Townsend St. Walton, with the Rev. Jay O'Connor, officiating.
