Floyd J. Stoutenberg 87 of Walton, passed away Wednesdsay morning, July 9, 2014 at the Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich, following a long illness.
Floyd was born on September 28, 1926 in Masonville, the son of the late Jesse and Gladys Hinman Stoutenberg. He graduated from Sidney Central School, class of 1944. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WW II. He then worked in Scintilla (Amphenol), Kayser Mills and finally was a letter carrier for the USPS, retiring after 35 years of service.
Floyd married the former Edythe Maloney on February 9, 1946. She predeceased him on October 29, 1982. He later married Barbara MacGibbon in November 1989. She predeceased him on January 31, 2003.
Floyd was a long time member and past commander of the Truman C. Tobey Post 32 American Legion, and the Walton VFW Post 270, a former member and Honorary Member of the Morrow Hose Company # 1 and later Walton Fire Dept., the Town of Walton board and a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church of Walton.
Floyd is survived by his loving family, his children, Michael and Donna Stoutenberg, Mt. Upton, Kurt Stoutenberg, Oswego, Jessica and Bryon Getman, Chittenango; Al amd Mary Mac Gibbon, and Deborah Mac Gibbon, both of Walton; grandchildren, Tori Anderson, Melissa, Heather and Tyler Stoutenberg, Travis and Laura Getman, Patty and Cheri Mac Gibbon, Anthony McNeilly, Wendy Conway; great-grandchildren, Emily, Nicole, Danielle, Randi and Sean, a sister, Ruth Stoutenberg, Walton and several cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter in law, Cathy Stoutenberg and a brother, Marvin Stoutenberg.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday, July 11, 2014 from 5:30 to 8:30 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, NY 13856. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11AM at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 17 Benton Ave., Walton. Burial will be held the following week in Walton Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorial contributions in Floyd's memory may be made to the Truman C. Toby Ladies Auxiliary Post for the benefit of the Packing for overseas' soldiers, Walton.
