Obituary

Frances E. Doig, RN 92, a longtime resident of Walton passed away Friday morning, May 24, 2013 at Roscoe Community Nursing Home, following a long illness.

Frances was born on June 11, 1920 in Shinhopple, the daughter of the late Leon and Phoebe (Wormuth) Robinson. She was a graduate of Franklin Central School and Binghamton Nursing School where she earned her RN. She proudly served her country as a lieutenant in the US Army Medical Corp. during WW II. On February 15, 1946 she married Dr. Robert S. Doig, DVM at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. He died on October 1, 2010. Frances was a longtime member of the Walton United Presbyterian Church, the SOM Chapter # 255 OES; and the Delaware County Republican Committee. For many years she was employed by Delaware County Social Services as a case worker in the child protective agency.

Frances was famous for her work creating floats for parades and the Delaware County Fair. She also was responsible for the illuminated cross and star atop More Park. She also loved decorating her home during Christmas time.

She is survived by one daughter: Cheryl and Ray Sawdy of Endicott; and two sons: Richard and Mary Doig and Lyndon and Roz Doig, both of Walton; sisters: Helen Monell, six brothers: Lyndon and Fran Robinson, Roger and Diane Robinson, Robert and Dorothy Robinson, Lloyd Robinson and Lorna, Raymond Robinson; grandchildren, Robert Jr., David & Chris, Heather, Michael, Tara, Mindy, Angie and Gregg, several great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frances was predeceased by her son, Robert L. Doig, and brothers, Leon, Gerald, and Richard Robinson and a sister, Barbara Higley.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St, Walton, NY with the Rev. Bert More, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery with full military honors. There are no calling hours.
