Obituary

On Friday, June 30, 2017, Francis M. Fisher, 85, passed away peacefully at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi after a recent illness.

Born at the family home on Trout Brook Road in the Town of Colchester, New York to Frank and Elizabeth (McClagan) Fisher on February 9, 1932, Francis, affectionately known to his family and friends as "Loppy", was raised in the hamlet of Rock Rift. At an early age he moved with his family to Walton, where he happily spent the remainder of his life.

In a family consumed by music he learned to play by ear several instruments, becoming most proficient at the piano, which he played with uncommon skill and enthusiasm throughout his life. Loppy earned a reputation as a superb entertainer as he performed regularly for many years, either alone or with the locally renowned Fisher Brothers band at such popular area establishments as the Roundup Ranch, Scotch Valley, Andes Hotel, and Hidden Inn. His love of music never diminished despite his advancing age, as he continued to sing and play at home and at family events.

Stationed in El Paso, Texas, Loppy served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged at the war's end. Before he entered the service he met the love of his life, Marguerite Banks, at a square dance and they were married on May 6, 1956. Together they raised three children, Dawn, Martin and Julie, all of whom settled in Walton where they and their spouses raised families of their own.

For 35 years Loppy worked at the Kraft plant in Walton, and then for a time at the National Bank of Delaware County. Other than playing the piano, he enjoyed golfing with his wife and friends, and attending family gatherings for dinner or picnics at the camp. Later in life Loppy took pleasure in driving about the village and outskirts of Walton, often stopping to chat with whomever he might see along the way. He had a great love of life and people, and enjoyed very much telling humorous stories, and especially spending time with family.

Loppy was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and brothers Everett, Frank, Jr., Thomas, James and Richard. He is survived by his sisters, Mary (John) Simonds, Carol (Pat) Flynn, and Sandra (Anthony) Ross, and brother, Donald (Joy) Fisher, his children, Dawn (Richard) Northrup, Martin (Lorraine) Fisher, and Julie (Mark) Patterson, grandchildren, Eric (Amanda) Northrup, Christopher Northrup, Jacquelyn (William) Neale, Joshua Fisher, Kelsey Patterson, and Elizabeth Patterson, two great grandchildren, Eli and Abel Northrup, several nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Evelyn Fisher and Elinor Fisher, and special friends Sara Shea, Clem D'Angelo, Sal Gulino, and neighbors Phyllis and Ray Lopez.

The family would like to express their gratitude and sincerest thanks to the many healthcare providers at Bassett Hospital in

Cooperstown and O'Connor Hospital in Delhi for the outstanding care provided and compassion shown to Loppy during his final days.

At Loppy's request there will be no funeral or calling hours. Arrangements are being made by the Courtney Funeral Home in Walton for a grave side service to be conducted at a later date, with burial at the Beaverkill Cemetery in Roscoe at the convenience of the family,

In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made to a charity of your choice.
