Fred H. Knapp, 69 a long time resident of Walton, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2008 in Delaware Valley Hospital, after a long struggle with Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS).

Fred was born in Oneonta on April 30, 1939 the son of the late Louis and Dorothy (Murdock) Knapp. He was a graduate of Oneonta High School, class of 1957. On August 2, 1958 he married the former Patricia Doyle, in Walton . He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Fred was self employed as a plumbing and heating contractor, a former member of the Fancher Hook & Ladder Co., serving as captain, and Walton Mountain Sportsman Club.

Fred was a hard working family man who worked 7 days a week and 6 after he retired. He loved building things which included his home and barn on his property. He and Pat enjoyed their home, watching the many birds and the bear who would often come and visit, emptying the hummingbird feeder.

Fred is survived by his loving wife: Pat, 2 daughters, Darla "Jerry" D'Addezio, Walton, Tracy "Michael Kirtley" Knapp, Albany, 4 grandchildren, Joe "Pam" D'Addezio, Anthony D'Addezio, Angela "Travis" Neidig, Gemma "Ryan" Ward, 8 great grandchildren, 1 brother, Alden "Mary" Knapp, Oneonta; brother and sister in laws, Shirley DeSilva, Walton, Bob & Barb Doyle, Delancey, Betty & Walt Tompkins, Downsville, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Bret D'Addezio.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Sunday, June 29, 2008 from 12 to 2 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, where services will be held at 2 PM. Burial will take place at Walton Cemetery at 11 AM on Monday morning, with full military honors.
