Freda E. Harrington, 96, a long life resident of Walton, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 14, 2010 at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown, following a short illness.
She was born on April 11, 1914 in Walton, the daughter of the late Wilford and Sarah (Brown) Rickard.
On September 29, 1934 she married Frank W. Harrington. He died on December 14, 1983. She attended the New Hope Community Church.
Freda, known to many as "Grandma", was locally famous for her delicious cinnamon buns and pies. She gave generously to a variety of causes. She was an avid quilter and reader. She provided a home to many and love and laughter to all who crossed her path.
She is survived by five daughters, Patricia (Vern) Eichler; Oneonta, Sarah (Robert) Bartlett; Walton, Mary (Robert) Wilkie; Walton, Rebecca (Carl) O'Dell ;Walton, Georgia (Richard) Gifford; Delhi, and her special "boys" Mike and Tom. She was proud to have 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren ; Several nieces, nephews, and cousins and her faithful companion, Jezebel.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Friday evening, September 17, 2010, from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Funeral services will be held 2 PM on Saturday afternoon, at the New Hope Community Church, Stockton Ave., Walton with the Rev. Larry Light, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery.
