Obituary

Frederick W. Bradley, Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on Friday August 29, 2014 at Center for Hope Hospice in Scotch Plains. Born and raised in Trenton, NJ, he was a graduate of Trenton Central High School in 1945. In the spring of his senior year, he enlisted in the US Naval Reserve Corps. serving as a Pharmacist Mate at the National Naval Medical Center.

Mr. Bradley was a member of the Colgate University Class of 1950, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. He went on to earn a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1955.

Mr. Bradley had a long and influential career as one of the premier financiers and advisers to the Airline and Aerospace Industry working closely with airframe and engine manufacturers as well as airlines across the world.

Mr. Bradley began his career at W.R.Grace & Co. in its South American passenger transportation businesses and later worked as a consultant focused in the aeronautical industry. He joined The First National City Bank of New York in 1958 and rose to become a Senior Vice President of Citibank, N.A. (as the First National City Bank was renamed) in charge of the bank's global airline and aerospace business. While at Citibank, Mr. Bradley pioneered many of the innovative financing strategies used by the global airline industry today to acquire aircraft that often cost into the billions of dollars including structured financings utilizing global debt capital markets, leveraged tax-motivated lease financing, operating lease approaches, and asset-based, aircraft portfolio lease securitizations. He was well regarded throughout the industry for his ability to solve problems in what was often a cyclical, troubled industry by finding innovative but credible solutions and by supporting his clients through their difficult financial periods. He was the lead banker for many of the industry's principal companies, among these The Boeing Company, United Technologies, Pan Am and SAS.

After retiring from Citibank in the early 1990's, Mr. Bradley joined various Boards of Directors including America West Airlines, Inc. (a predecessor company of American Airlines) where he served for seven years until 1999. He also served as the Chairman of the Board of ALPS 92-1 and 94-1, as Chairman of the Board of AerCo Limited and as a senior aviation industry adviser to the Long Term Credit Bank of Japan. Mr. Bradley was also a Director of First Citicorp Life Insurance Co., and the Institute of Air Transport Paris, France and was president of the International Air Transport Association's (IATA) International Airline Training Fund of the United States.

He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth White Bradley, who died in 2012. He is survived by his daughters, Margaret Olivia Bradley and Anne Elizabeth Bradley.

A short service of burial will be held at Walton Cemetery on Monday August 24 at 3:30 p.m.
