George W. Rose, 77 of Walton, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2007, surrounded by his family, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. George was born in Kingston on October 14, 1929 the son of the late Odell and Oral (Merritt) Rose. On June 28, 1953 he married the former Margaret Field at the Margaretville United Methodist Church. He proudly served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force.
George retired as Captain and Commanding Officer for the Board of Water Supply Police (DEPP) after 33 years. He was a member of the Chiefs of Police Assn., the Retired Police Assn., Walton F&AM Lodge # 559, Order of the Eastern Star where he was past Patron and NY State Sentinel, Orphan's Lodge # 761, Oxford, NC, Delaware County Shields, Walton Mountain Sportsmen Club, Walton Legion and VFW, Life Member of the NRA, the North American Hunting Club, and the Plymouth Community Church. George loved the outdoors where he loved to hunt and fish. But most of all he loved his family and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren where he was a frequent fan and supporter of their many athletic events.
George is survived by his wife: Margaret, 2 sons, Scott (Lisa) Rose, Cary, NC; Steven (Jacqlene) Rose, Sidney, 1 daughter, Jacquelyn Rose, Vermont; 8 grand children, Jon (Cindy), Chris, Billy, Mandy, Tom, Matt, Cody, and Keith, special cousin, Nancy Munsell, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and very special friends Lori, Paul, Jered, Paula Jean, and Andy Foote, Chelsea Pixley and Patty Lacey.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Thursday evening, October 11, 2007 from 6 to 8 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St.., Walton. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:00 am at the Plymouth Community Church, County Rt. 21 with the Revs. Tom Davis and William Robertson, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery with full DEPP honors. Memorial contributions in George's memory may be sent to the American Heart Association, Box 3049, Syracuse, 13220-3049 or the charity of one's choice.
