IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gladys Berryann
Loomis
July 23, 1923 – May 3, 2013
Gladys Berryann Loomis, 89, passed away on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Robinson Terrace, following a long illness.
Gladys was born in Walton the daughter of the late George and Emma (Armstrong) Berryann, who predeceased her in 1974.
She was a graduate of Walton High School in 1941 and took as many business classes as possible since that was her favorite type of work for life.
Gladys was a member of the First Congregational Church in Walton and taught a Sunday school class for several years. Her first full time job was in the National Bank of Delaware County, Walton in 1941 and after 11 years, received a leave of absence to travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma where she made many new friends and decided to remain in Tulsa to work in the office of Sinclair Oil Co. for nearly 3 years.
Missing her family and the New York mountains, she resigned and returned to Walton. Another office job became available and she was employed by Cossitt Motor Express in Hamilton, NY for 20 years when the company was sold because of the death of the owner. She returned to Walton to live with her brother Durwood after the death of her husband.
Harry Ferris Loomis and Gladys Marie Berryann were married on October 12, 1957 and he passed away in February 1983. Durwood also passed away in April 1985. She then lived alone in the house where she was born and enjoyed crocheting afghans, doing embroidery, craft work, bird watching, cooking, house plants and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
Thoughtful neighbors Jim and Lynn Hoover, Dawn and Bill Seneschal made life more pleasant, along with help from Carol Loomis, friends Ruby and Dorothy from Tulsa and a few cousins scattered around the country. Many other friends were also a blessing.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Wednesday morning, May 8, 2013 from 10 to 12 noon at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton where services will be held at noon with the Rev. Mark Del Giudice, officiating.
Memorial contributions in memory of Gladys may be sent to the First Congregational Church, 4 Mead St., Walton, NY 13856.
