Obituary

After a long and fulfilled life, Glenn A. Schmidt Sr. left this earth to pass onto to heavenly glory at his home in Walton, NY, surrounded by his loving family.

Glenn was born on September 28, 1924 in Franklin the son of the late Anthony Philip and Ethel Jane Johnson Schmidt. He was raised on the family farm on West Brook Rd. He spent 59 years with the love of his life, Elizabeth Moore Schmidt. He retired after 50 years as a proud owner/operator of Schmidt Trucking of Walton. Glenn was a very proud US Navy veteran of WW II, having served in the Asiatic, Pacific and Philippine Liberation, where he was awarded the Victory Medal.

Glenn was a member of the American Legion and VFW of Walton. He was an avid fan of Blue Grass music and looked forward each year to attend festivals at Wrench Wranch in Coventry. He was a proud member of the Penny Blue Grass Association.

Surviving Glenn is his wife, Elizabeth of Walton, his children and their spouses, Larry Arthur Schmidt, Watertown; Lynn Anthony (Nancy) Schmidt, Walton; Lloyd Allen (Pat) Schmidt, Schenectady; Glenn Addison (Joan) Schmidt, Franklin; Pat Jane (Peter) Zawko, Westmoreland; Linda Anne (Reed) Holbert, Bainbridge; Toni Lea Schmidt, Walton; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren all of whom he was especially proud of and thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent with each of them. He also leaves his faithful and loving canine companion, Buddy. He was predeceased by his parents, sons, David Craig Schmidt Sr., and Stephen Joe Schmidt and one grandson, Jeremiah David Hulse.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Saturday, May 30, 2009 from 10 AM to 12 noon at the Courtney Funeral Home 25 Townsend St., Walton where services will be held at noon with Pastor Tom Davis, officiating.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorial contributions be made to Walton EMS in Glenn's name.
