Grace L. Hoff, 79, of Walton passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City, NY.
Grace was born October 13, 1934 in Trout Creek the daughter of the late Daniel and Lillian (Barringer) Bush. On February 22, 1953 she married Dwight E. Butler to whom she was married for 25 years until his death in 1980. On September 24, 1983 she married the late William E. Hoff in Walton. During their 18 years together they operated two small businesses in Walton, East Brook Pottery and B & G Locksmith Service. In addition to their business ventures, they enjoyed square dancing, traveling, and camping at Tall Pines Campground in Bainbridge in their fifth-wheel camper with their Border Collie Eli. Bill predeceased Grace on December 27, 2001.
Grace took great pride in caring for her family and home, spending many years as a homemaker at 51 Shepard St. She joined the workforce when her children were teenagers, first as an Assembler at Eureka Tent in Walton and later as the Head of the Electronics Department at Ames in Delhi.
In addition to her work, Grace was a member of the Grange in Walton where she served as Treasurer for many years, the Walton Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Trout Creek Girls lunch group, and was a long time regular among the diners at T.A.'s Place. Grace was well known for the sweet, loving smile she shared with all whom she met in life.
Never one to sit still or be bored, Grace always kept busy with her many hobbies. In her younger years she often played volleyball, cards, and bowled with friends. She enjoyed reading, especially Nicholas Sparks novels; doing word search puzzles, crocheting, taking care of her flower gardens; and playing solitaire on the computer and Bejeweled on her iPAD. More than anything she loved being surrounded by her family and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
Grace is survived by her loving family, her daughter, Mary Jane (Ken) Coons of Walton; her grandchildren, Josh Butler of Sidney; Melissa Haverly-Grossmann (Andy) of Walton, AJ (Chelsea) Haverly of Annapolis, MD; Seth, Caleb, and Kylee O'Dell of Sidney; her great-grandchildren, Hannah, Taylor, Logan, Ruby, and Isabella; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends Carol Raymundo, Jeanie Hansen, and Rosie Meadowbrook. Grace was predeceased by her first husband and loving father of her children, Dwight E. Butler on March 18, 1980, her son, Allen D. Butler on January 17, 1980, her newborn daughter, Tina Louise Butler in 1966, and her six siblings; brothers William, Daniel, and Ed Bush; and sisters, Julia Martin, Helen Moore, and Nettie Hall.
Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, February 13, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. Funeral services will commence at 12 p.m. that day with Pastor Jay O'Connor officiating. Burial will take place at the Walton Cemetery in the spring.
