Harland B. Goodrich, 86, of Walton, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family following a long illness.
Harland was born on December 8, 1927 in Beerston, the son of the late Bruce and Elsie
(Wood) Goodrich. He married the former Arvella Tweedie on July 7, 1957 in Otego, a blessed union of 56 years.
Harland proudly served his country in the U. S. Army from 1950-1953 in the 188th Airborne Infantry Regiment. He came back to Walton and first went to work for the Clara Smith Farm, then the Walton-East Branch Foundry. He then worked for Breakstone's as a Cheesemaker for 25 years. Harland enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and going to Lawn Sales and helping to stock fish in the Delaware.
Harland is survived by his loving family, his wife, Arvella, his children, Sue Ann and Mike Sakell of Monticello; Terri Massey and John Fancher of Walton; Brian and Cathy Goodrich of West Fulton, NY; Tim and Sherri Goodrich of Savoy, Texas; his grandchildren, Beth, Noel, Christopher, and Drake, his great-grandchildren, Kadance, Clarrisa, and Samantha Maus, Keyoni and Corday Morrison, his brothers, Jerry and Beverly Goodrich of Masonville; Larry Goodrich of Oregon; his sisters, Martha and Dick Bartlett of Unadilla; and Celia Wood of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins and his special friend, William Maus, who helped take care of Harland in his final days. He was predeceased by his sisters, Hilda Hiller and Vernice Cox.
A graveside service with full military honors will be held in Walton Cemetery in the Spring. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
