Helen Buttel, 91 of, Walton, formerly of West Milford, New Jersey, passed away Saturday afternoon in Franklin, as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

Helen was born in New Jersey on March 3, 1917 the daughter of the late Charles and Katherine Smagula. She married Howard Buttel in New Jersey. He died in 1967. She was employed as a clerk by Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton. She also sold real estate for many years, and managed the Bubbling Spring Lake Recreation Center in New Jersey.

Helen was a talented artist who loved to paint in oil. She also was a talented seamstress, and enjoyed watching the stock market.

Helen is survived by her son Howard Buttel of Trout Creek, 2 grandchildren, Howard and Jessica Buttel, both of Walton, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by 2 brothers John and Emil Smagula.

Friends are invited to call on Tuesday evening, May 27, 2008 from 6 to 8 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 1 PM at Mt Hebron Cemetery, Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
