Henry Leonard Garramone, 83, of Walton passed away peacefully surrounded by family at UHS Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY on Thursday March 14, 2024.
Henry was born March 31, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY the son of Henry Thomas Garramone and Yolanda Scarpinella Garramone.
Henry was a graduate of Grover Cleveland High in Queens, NY and Delahanty's Automotive School. Henry owned and operated Delaware Transmission in Walton, and in later years was a school bus driver for the Franklin Central School District.
Henry was a man of many talents and interests. He was a collector of antique Lionel trains which began with the purchase of his first train by his father at age one. He enjoyed restoring antique automobiles and attending car shows with friends. Henry belonged to the Butternut Valley Rods and Relics Club and the Walton Pistol Club. Other hobbies included playing cards, snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, archery, target practice and hunting.
Henry's love for the mountains brought him to Walton from Queens, NY. Through the years he enjoyed caring for his fields and forests with his bulldozers, tractors and backhoe. He ventured into haying his fields and constructing roads on the property. Carpentry called to him and along with friends and family he built his automatic transmission shop, an addition on the house and a hunting cabin in Andes, NY.
Henry loved animals, especially dogs. He was a firm believer in adopting homeless dogs from shelters. Over the years he rescued and gave a loving home to Siberian Huskies, German Shepherds and Rottweilers.
Henry will be most remembered by his friends and family as an outgoing, generous person who never thought twice about helping others. He was a loyal friend to all.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years Margaret "Peggy" Welker Garramone of Walton, his daughter Pamela Marie (Wayne) O'Connor of Catawissa, Pa., his son Leonard Henry Garramone of Wurtsboro, NY., two grandchildren Nicholas and Vincent O'Connor, two sisters Virginia (Joseph) Fontana of Riverhead, Long Island, NY., Lydia (Gary) Maggio of Selden, Long Island, NY, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 1-3 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2024 at the Courtney Funeral Home 25 Townsend Street Walton, NY. Services will begin immediately following calling hours at 3:00PM.
