Herbert S. Elderkin, 90 died Saturday July 20, 2024, at home in Walton surrounded by his loving family.

Herbert was born July 15, 1934, in Franklin, NY to Earl Elderkin and Hazel (Yeomans) Elderkin.

Herberts father died when Herb was 15 years old, leaving Hazel and Herb to run the family farm in Franklin, NY.

Herbert married Patricia Barnhart in 1956. Shortly after marriage they bought their own farm in Franklin. After selling their farm, Pat and Herb moved to Walton.

Herbert worked for Gifford Tree Service and 45 years as a Forman Asplundh Tree Service. Herb also took down many trees in Walton, and surrounding villages with his own business, Elderkin Tree Service. Herb employed many of his own Asp. Men to help with jobs on the weekends.

After retirement Herbert mowed lawns and removed stumps, and at one time he was mowing 23 lawns a week. His last tree was taken down at 80 years old. Due to Pats' insistants, no more climbing!

Herb and Pat were married 64 years, until Pats' death in 2020. Herb is survived by a daughter Kathleen (Chris) Niece, a granddaughter, Sally (Vincen) Silano, great grandchildren; Evelynn, Christopher Pritchard, Averie, Maddie and Chrisopher Silano.

Herb is predeceased by his parents Earl and Hazel Elderkin, his sister Ruth, and son Stephen Elderkin.

A Graveside service will be held Friday July 26, 2024 at the Ouleout Cemetery in Franklin, NY at 11AM with Pastor Larry Light officiating.
