Howard R. Telford, 87 a life long, and well respected Walton area resident, passed away surrounded by his family Thursday morning, June 30, 2005 in Bassett Healthcare Cooperstown, after a short illness.
Howard was born on June 18, 1918 in Delancey, the son of the late Ray and Ethel Garrick Telford. On June 22, 1941 he married Thelma I. Miller. She died on January 14, 1979. He was a well known Prudential Insurance Agent, for many years. He was a long time member of the United Presbyterian Church of Walton, serving as a trustee, and head usher. He was a long time member of the Walton Fire Dept., serving as secretary, and later as an honorary member. He belonged to the Oak Ridge Hunting Club, and the Pines Brook Fish and Game Club.
Howard loved square dancing, and would go to dances all over the area. He loved to travel, tend to his flowers, bowling, playing cards, and all kinds of games. But most of all he loved, and was very proud of his family.
He is survived by his companion, Betty Robinson; two daughters: Betsy L. Howland of Fairfield, Iowa, Beverly K. and Ryan Kilmer of Hamden, one brother: Robert L. Telford of Walton; his grandchildren, Rex D. Layton, Julie and Dale Stephens, Joan and Mel Allen, Jennifer, Thomas and Jolyn, and David and Wendy Howland, and Kelly, 3 great grandchildren, Bradly, Mason, Emily and Jaxen; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother James Telford, a sister, Jeanette Oles, a brother-in-law, Robert Oles, and a sister-in- law, Millie Telford.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Saturday, July 2, 2005 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St. Walton. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3:00 PM at the United Presbyterian Church, Walton, with the Rev. Dr. James F. Martin, officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Howard's memory may be made to the United Presbyterian Church, 58 East St., Walton, or the Walton Fire Dept. 61 West St. Walton. . Envelopes for memorial contributions are available by contacting the funeral home.
