Segar
April 13, 1929 – September 8, 2008
Illa T. Segar, 79, of Walton, passed away on Monday afternoon, September 8, 2008 at Delaware Valley Hospital following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Mrs. Segar was born on April 13, 1929 in the Town of Hamden, a daughter of the late William A. and Pearl Hadsell Tweedie.
She was a 1946 graduate of Walton High School. Illa married Evan B. Segar on December 21, 1946 in Walton. Evan and Illa owned and operated West Brook Acre's, a dairy farm on West Brook Rd. from 1947 until 1981. She also owned a pet boarding business which she operated for several years.
Illa was also a legal secretary and para-legal for local attorneys, Eaton, Mugglin, Griffith, DeGroat and Northrup. She served them for over 32 years until her retirement in 1991.
Evan and Illa moved to Safety Harbor, Florida following their retirement. They moved back to Walton in April of this year.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Walton for over 40 years, currently she was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church of Clearwater, FL; and recently she has enjoyed attending services at the First Congregation Church in Walton.
Mrs. Segar was a member of the Clearwater Shuffleboard Club. She was the co-producer of what is believed to be the first ever instructional video for perfecting the sport of shuffleboard.
She survived by her husband of 62 years, Evan B. Segar, Walton; children: Debby L. (Raymond) Palladino of Winchester, VA and their children, Jevon Lake, Arizona, Jeffery and John Palladino both of Virginia; Pamela A. Moody of Walton, and her children, Andrew (Jocelyn MacRabie) Moody and Trevor Moody both of Walton; and Andy (Tammy) Segar of Laurens and their daughter, Chelsea Segar, Laurens; one brother: William C. (Linda) Tweedie of Cicero; sisters: Uva M. (late Merton) Scott and Janith I. (late Joseph) Kilpatrick, both of Walton; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call on the family from 6 – 8 pm on Thursday evening, September 11, 2008 at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. A funeral service will be held at 11am on Friday morning, September 12th at the First Congregational Church, 4 Mead St., Walton, with the Rev. Jennifer Matison Juliano officiating.
