Irene Conklin, 73, passed away on September 7, 2025, in AO Fox Hospital, in Oneonta NY.  She was born in Walton to Millard and Agnes (Fitch) Wood on March 20, 1952. She was one of nine children, and grew up on a farm on Bob's Brook Rd.

Irene is survived by her loving children, her daughters Rebecca (Jay) Stone of Cooperstown, and Lisa Conklin of Walton and son, Mike Conklin (Marilyn) of Walton. Her grandchildren, Rachel Stone, Jonathan Stone, Draven Ayala, and Wyatt Whittaker, and the father of her children, George Conklin.

She is also survived by her brothers Carl (Gail) Wood of Indiana, Ray (Arlene) Wood of Bainbridge, and her sister Carol Wood Nichols of Walton, her sister-in-laws, Audrey Wood of Downsville, Beverly Wood of Walton, Karen Hoyt of Bainbridge, and Patty Wood of Walton. She also had many nieces, and nephews that she enjoyed hearing about and sharing in their lives.

Irene is a graduate of Walton Central School class of 1970. She was employed by RFI and Broome Developmental and enjoyed helping and working with special needs adults. She also sold Mary Kay Cosmetics for many years and spent her retirement years driving for the Delaware County Office of the Aging.

She raised her family on the dairy farm on East Brook Rd and spent many wonderful years there where her children raised and showed cattle, and where she could enjoy her love of horses with her own horse Sabrina.

Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Millard and Agnes, and her brothers, George, Merlyn, Alan, and Stephen Wood, along with an infant sister Sally.

Arrangements were in the care of Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.

There will be a celebration of life at Walton Fire Department (61 West St, Walton, NY) on September 23, 2025, from 5-7 pm where friends are welcome to come reminisce, share stories, and memories with the family.
