Ivan M. O'Dell, 82, of DeLancey passed away on Sunday evening, May 23, 2010 at O'Connor Hospital in Delhi following a long illness.

He was born on September 17, 1927 in Burnwood, NY, a son of the late Ralph and Lula McAdams O'Dell.

Ivan was a Quarryman, cutting blue stone from the quarries of the area for most of his life. He also had worked as a Custodian for Webutuck Central School in Dutchess Co.

He was married to Jane Klukkert on November 19, 1982 in Downsville.

Mr. O'Dell was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and searching for wild ginseng. Ivan had a passion for playing cards with friends and family, he would play pinochle and occasionally poker. He was also quite a green thumb, growing vegetables, raspberries and often helping Jane with the flower gardens. Ivan also enjoyed cooking and was often found in the kitchen preparing large breakfasts for family and friends.

Besides his beloved and devoted wife Jane, he is survived by his sisters: Joyce Elmore of DeLancey and Naomi Peck of Livingston Manor; sister -in- laws: Ellie Klukkert and her daughters, Vicky and Lois Klukkert; Doris Allen and her sons, Art and Randall (Laurie) Allen; and Anne(Roy) Ruske, and their children, Susan(Don) Burns and Ted(Ann) Ruske; a special cousin: Marie O'Dell and her children Josie and Carl (Becky) O'Dell; special nieces and nephew: Michelle(Mikel) Hammond, Ken (Janis) Young and Marilou(Richard) Lacey and their children, Dawn(Chris) D'Addezio and Julie(Tom) Markert; several nieces nephews and cousins; and his spoiled baby cat, Daisy.

Ivan was predeceased by his sisters: Mildred, Aletha, Frances, Leona and Thelma; brothers: Marcus, Vernon, Clinton and Lloyd; a nephew: Ken Young; and a cousin: Kingsly O'Dell.

Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday morning, May 29, 2010 at the DeLancey Presbyterian Church, County Route 2, DeLancey, with the Rev. Linda Hendrian officiating. Burial will follow at Hamden Cemetery.
