James M Bryden, 86, passed away unexpectedly on November 13, 2024, in Sidney, New York.

James M. Bryden was born on December 25, 1937 in Hamden, NY, to his parents, Knox Bryden and Pearl Gray from Hamden, NY.

James graduated from Delaware Academy, Delhi, NY and went on to Delhi Tech for one year.  He started his career as a farmer, then worked for GE in Schenectady and then became a stone cutter until he retired.

James married Joan Casse on July 4, 1959 in the Walton Presbyterian Church.

James was best known for helping his neighbors and friends, gardening, bird watching, taking bus trips and quilting.  He was the featured artist at various local quilt shows and senior groups with his art quilts.  He also did trunk shows where he presented his colorful quilts and wall hangings.

James also served in the National Guard for several years.

James is survived by James (Jamie) Bryden, son (Afton),  sisters in law, Lorraine Bryden-Miller (Walton), Sue Casse (Norwich), Michelle Casse (Shirley, NY) and brothers in law, Adolphe Casse III, (Shirley, NY), Phillip Casse (Virginia), and several cousins and nieces and nephews.

James is preceded in death by Joan Bryden (wife), Knox and Pearl Bryden (parents), brothers in law, Robert Miller, Robert Casse; sister in law Ruth Ann Casse.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Courtney Funeral Home located at 25 Townsend St., Walton, NY 13856, 11am-12pm with a service to follow at 12pm.

Burial will be held privately at the Hamden Cemetery at the family's convenience.
