Obituary

James E. Crane, 85, of Walton passed away peacefully on February 19, 2020.

Born June 18, 1934 in Montour Falls, NY, he was a son of the late Robert and Florence (Wickham) Crane.

After attending SUNY Alfred and Cornell University, James was employed as a store manager of Roxbury G.L.F. and then Ashland Agway Inc. In 1966, James became County Executive Director of the Delaware County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). He received several awards while employed with ASCS. James enjoyed working on his home, garden, and yard. He also took pride in repairing and showing classic cars. James was a long time member of the United Presbyterian Church where he served on several committees. James also served two years as Cub Scout Pack 36 leader. From 1977 to 1985, James enjoyed his membership as a director and officer of Walton Kiwanis Club.

James is survived by his wife Katharine (Stevens) Crane of Walton NY; sisters Helen Crane of Ontario, NY, Carol Cross of Palmer, AK, Ruth (Paul) Capotosto of Berwick, PA; and brother Dave Crane of Chenango Forks, NY. Also surviving James are children Richard R. (Patti) Crane of Livonia, NY, Douglas (Kathy) Crane of Honeye Falls, NY, Ann Crane of Walton, NY, Paul (Liane) Crane of Victor, NY; brother-in-law Orrin (Shirley) Stevens of Littleton, CO; as well as 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. James was predeceased by his parents and brothers Richard S. Crane and Frederick Crane.

A service to celebrate James's life will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at 1 P.M. at Walton United Presbyterian Church, 58 East Street, Walton with Pastor Paul Huh officiating. Please join the family following the service in the church Community Room to share memories and enjoy food and continued fellowship.
