James W. Murphy, 72, of Downsville, passed away at his home on Saturday morning, July 4, 2009, surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with a long illness.

He was born in Andes on March 9, 1937, the son of the late Sterling and Ella Shaver Murphy.

Jim was a self employed logger operating Murphy Logging until his retirement in 1999.

He was married on June 12, 1982 to Linda L. Walker.

James was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and all that nature offered. He was a charter member of the ANH Hunting Club and was a life member of Downsville Vol. Fire Department.

Jim is survived by his wife Linda of Downsville; seven children, Mike (Kristi) Elmore of Temecula, CA, Wayne Elmore of Santa Fa Springs, CA, Richard (Susan) Murphy of Downsville, Randy Murphy of Forest Port, Robert Murphy of Downsville, Reginald Murphy of Delancy and Rhonda Murphy of Downsville; six grandchildren, Desirae "little angel" Wilcox, Kevin, Scott, Dylan, Emma and Vincent Elmore; brothers, Walt Murphy and Ralph "Roy" (MaryLou) Murphy both of Downsville; sisters, Sylvia (Steve) Reed of Hamden and Alfreda "Sis"(Paul) Doig of Downsville; brother-in-law & sister-in-laws, Ron & Carol Walker, Sheri Murphy, Diane Grasso and Sandra Walker; special nieces, Kimberly Felter, Shawna Terry and Tammy Davies; special uncle and aunt, Hick and Vashti Murphy; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his brother, Sterling "Butch" Murphy and a sister, Lois Ross.

Friends and family may call on

Monday, July 6, 2009 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. A funeral service will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, July 7 at the funeral home with Father RL Donahue officiating.
