James E. Shaw, 73, a lifelong dairy farmer and resident of Downsville, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Wilson Memorial Hospital.

Jim was born in Walton on April 30, 1940 the son of the late Ellis T. and Rhoda (Gray) Shaw. He graduated from Downsville Central School the Class of 1958. On April 4, 1964 he married the former Betty L. Marshall in Downsville.

Jim was a lifetime Dairy Farmer he owned and operated Windybend Farm in Downsville for over 55 years. He loved his family, his Registered Holsteins, and helping 4-H children with their projects. He was a 4-H leader for 19 years. He also served on several committees for agriculture and 4-H. In May 1958 he earned the Empire State Farmer Award and later placed 2nd at the National level. He was a fifty year member of the Holstein Friesian Association of America and the Delaware County Holstein Club.

Jim is survived by his loving family, his wife, Betty, his children, Linda (Michael) Baudendistel of Deposit; Daniel (Nancy)Shaw of Downsville; Sandra (Michael) Tweedie of Walton; Karen (Dan) Chopiak of Maine Endwell; Lori (Jason) Weykman of Clifton Springs; his grandchildren, Lindsey and Zachary Weykman, Kaitlyn Baudendistel, Jacob and Cheyenne Chopiak, and Rachel Shaw.

Friends and family are invited to call on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 7 to 9 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton where services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 11 AM, with the Rev. Dale Ashby, officiating. Burial will follow in the Paige Cemetery, Downsville.
