Jean Ann (Croop) Shaw, of Downsville, NY, passed away on September 17, 2016 surrounded by her loving family.

Jean is survived by her children, Debbie (Philip) Odell; Rick (Lori) Shaw; Missy (Dave) Lawrence; and son- in-law, Darryl Houck, all of Downsville, NY; and Cindy Shaw (Hans Tuneblom) of Lexington, MA. Jean was also the proud grandmother to 11 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, with two more on the way.

She was predeceased by her husband of 37 years Richard L. Shaw, Jr., her oldest daughter, Vicki Houck, and her partner of 13 years, Bill Linnell.

Jean was born in Albany NY to Leora (Croop) Shaver on November 25, 1938, and was lovingly raised by her mother, and grandparents Charlotte and Victor Croop. She graduated from Downsville Central School in 1956 and soon after married her high-school sweetheart, Dick Shaw on September 8, 1956.

After the birth of her fifth child in 1966, Jean started attending college at SUNY Oneonta where she obtained her teaching degree. She began her long teaching career at DCS in 1969 where she taught for 33 years.

Jean was a member of the DFD Ladies Auxiliary, DCS Alumni Association, Delaware Valley Ridge Riders, and a lifetime member of the Colchester Community Church. Music was an important part of her life, and she enjoyed singing with her church choir and the Damtown Players for many years.

One of Jean's passions was traveling, but her greatest joy was spending time with her loving family. She also had an "adopted" family in Florida whom she loved very much.

A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Saturday, September 24th, 2016 at 11AM at the Colchester Community Church in Downsville. Arrangements are under the direction of Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Colchester Community UMC, P. O. Box 305, Downsville, New York 13755.
