Jean C. Tompkins, 79, a lifelong resident of the Walton area passed away early Monday morning, April 20, 2015 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford, following a long illness.

Jean was born on February 3, 1936 in Walton the daughter of the late Lewis Morris and Alfreda Lenora (VanKleeck) Cobane. She was a graduate of Walton High School. On May 28, 1955 she married George B. Tompkins in Walton. He died on June 7, 2005.

Jean worked as a bus monitor for Delaware County ARC in Walton. She was a member of the Pines Brook Baptist Church in Walton.

Jean is survived by her loving family, her children, James A (Serena) Tompkins of Northfield, Laurie (David) Shute of Florida, Alfreda (Ken) Wood of Walton; Lisa (Linley) Purinton of Wilkes Barre, PA; 13 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, her brothers, Wayne and Burnald "Dutch"Cobane both of Walton; her sisters, Judith Hurlbert of Truxton, NY; Marilyn Hrulbert of Cortland, NY; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, her children, Louis, Daniel, and Lenora, her sister, Sandra and her brother, Luther.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton where services will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at 1 PM. Burial will follow in the Hamden Cemetery.
