Obituary

Jeanne Marie (Webb) Clark, 87, passed away at her daughter and son-in-law's home in Apalachin, NY on Thursday, September 22.

She was born in Ithaca, NY the daughter of the late Royal and Ethel Webb. She was predeceased by her husband, John R. Clark, and a son, John David. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in laws, Pamela and Charles Surratt, Golden, CO; Melissa and Stephen Rowell, Apalachin, NY; and four grandchildren, Melissa Surratt, Denver, CO; Charles Surratt, Colorado Springs, CO; Spencer and Alexander Rowell, Apalachin, NY.

She was a graduate of Oneonta High School in 1942 where she excelled in tennis becoming the singles champion for girls in her junior year. She went on to study nursing at Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing in New York City and was graduated in September, 1945. She was part of the ambulance team that responded to the fire at the Empire State building when a U.S. Army B-25 bomber smashed into it July 28, 1945.

Jeanne was a registered nurse, day supervisor at Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton until her retirement in in 1978. She was a 4-H leader of the Snip and Snack Club and served several years as 4-H camp nurse at Camp Shankitunk, Delhi. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Walton, for 50 years, and joined the Vestal United Methodist Church in 2003.

She enjoyed golfing when her garden didn't exercise a more powerful lure, and especially liked doing the New York Times crossword puzzle. She loved and pampered her dogs and was always owned by one. She and her husband traveled extensively in their retirement. An avid nature lover, she anticipated the return of bluebirds each spring.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Keith Nichols, Owego, Lourdes Hospice, and Home Instead Senior Care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jeanne's name may be made to Delaware Valley Hospital, Walton, NY or Vestal United Methodist Church.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 11 AM at the Walton Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Mary Ricketts, of the Vestal United Methodist Church, officiating. Arrangements are with Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
