Joan "Joni" Aberle Newitt Bunker, 82, from Little Falls, New York passed away on September 27, 2017 in Carrollton, Texas after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Born October 27, 1934 to Calvin & Nellie Hurlburt Newitt, Joni graduated Tufts University with a Bachelor's degree in physical therapy and later practiced in Ormond Beach, FL for nearly four decades. Married to William Marvin Bunker of Salado Texas, Joni was a devoted mother to their two sons, William Marvin Bunker, Jr. and David Byron Bunker. Always very active in her community, Joni organized events and volunteered for Cub Scouts, Seabreeze Senior High marching band, Civil Air Patrol, Embry Riddle University, and Ormond Beach Sheriff's Office. In 1977, Joni earned her private pilot's license and bought a Cessna 150 airplane, tail number 93G ("Niner Three Golf") which inspired her eldest son to become a pilot as well. Having developed a lifelong love of vacationing aboard cruise ships, Joni had made over 40 cruises with family and friends and enjoyed her cruises nearly as much as summers spent at her beloved Caroga Lake Adirondack cottage where neighbors are just like family. Joni is survived by her sister Marilynn Jones, son William (Arla) Bunker, son David (Wendy) Bunker, step-daughter Julia Bunker (Robert Teeter), step-daughter Carol Bunker, six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Barbara, and husband Marv and brother in law, Larry Jones. A Celebration of Joni's life will be held on July 28, 2018 from 1 to 4 PM at the Outlet Restaurant, 2401 State Highway 10, Caroga Lake, NY 12032.
