John M. Gabel, 83 of Walton, passed away Monday morning, March 3, 2008 at the Countryside Care Center, Delhi.
John was born in New City, NY, the son of the late Michael and Minnie (Killian) Gabel. On December 15, 1946 he married the former Shirley Cottle at the Park Ave. Methodist Church in New York City. He was a self employed dairy and poultry farmer. He later sold real estate for John Robinson Real Estate. John was a lifelong member of the Farm Bureau, the Cooperative Extension, the Walton Grange, and the Board of Realtors. John loved gardening, planting flowers and vegetables, selling the produce at the Delhi Farmers Market.
John is survived by his wife: Shirley, one daughter: Lorraine (Bruce) Kellogg of Bainbridge, NY three sons: John (Diana) Gabel Jr. of Wallkill, NY, Douglas (Kristin) Gabel of Thomasville, Pennsylvania; Stephen (Joyce Hickman) Gabel of Walton, 7 grandkids, Christopher, William, Kyle, Evan, David, Katie, Ilio, 1 sister, Lillian Cottle, New City, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Winifred Klass.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the United Presbyterian Church, 58 East St., Walton; on Sunday afternoon, March 9, 2008, from 1 to 3 PM where services will be held at 3 PM with the Rev. Thomas Ballard, officiating.
