John S. Davis, Jr., 73, a lifelong resident of Walton, passed away Friday, March 8, 2013 at home, following a long illness.

John was born on August 26, 1939 in Walton, the son of the late John S. and Fannie Baker Davis Sr. He was a graduate of Walton Central School. On July 5, 1969 he married the former Loretta Tweedie at the Plymouth Church. He was employed as a stone cutter then by the former Dellwood, Frasiers and later at S.J. Bailey's. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and telling stories to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife Loretta, one daughter: Jennifer (Pete Mason) Davis of Walton, one sister: Estella White of Delhi, NY and two brothers: Randy Gransbury of Virginia and Ronald Gransbury of Hancock; 4 grandchildren, Alexandria, Darren, Adam and Shawn, special kids, Tonia Boecke and Eric Travis, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, John S. Davis III in 2011 and a brother, Roger Davis.

Friends and relatives are invited to call on Monday Evening, March 11, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, NY 13856.

The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday morning, March 12 at the New Hope Community Church, 45 Stockton Ave., Walton, with the Rev. Larry Light officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Hancock.
