John C. Tennant, 71, of Walton passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Delaware Valley Hospital of Walton.
John was born on April 14, 1947 in Walton, the son of the late Basil H. and Gertrude M. (Burghart) Tennant. He was a graduate of Walton High School, class of 1965 and later graduated from Delhi Ag & Tech with a degree in business administration. On May 31, 1970 he married the former Sherry Simon. He worked for 34 years at NYSEG as a lineman and later as line supervisor. He was of the Episcopal faith.
John was a natural athlete who played in several basketball and softball leagues. He also played football for the Oneonta Indians. He loved the outdoors, walking and reading.
John is survived by his loving family, his wife, Sherry, his daughter, Andrea and son in law, Jay of Lakeworth, FL; his brothers, Michael (Noreda), Arizona; Walter (Cindy), Walton, Jerry (Rose), Treadwell; Robert, NY; sisters, Mary Mehegan, Walton; Carolyn Quick, Delhi; Gloria Vredenburgh, NC; Sally (David) Frink, Sidney and Barbara (Jim) Utter, Binghamton. Also survived by sisters in law Ruth Tennant, Unadilla; and Linda Tennant, Sydney along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Basil, George and Willie, sister in law Barbara Tennant, brothers in law Tom Quick and Bill Mehegan.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on Tuesday, January 15 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, NY. Arrangements are under the direction of the Courtney Funeral Home, Walton.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2:00PM in Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Ave, Walton.
