Joseph R. Sullivan, 75, of Downsville passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at home following a long illness.

Joe was born on July 28, 1942 in Staten Island, the son of the late Michael and Ann Sullivan. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army. On October 23, 1971 he married the former Mary Lou Ferrara in Staten Island.

Joe worked for Lazard Freres as an analyst in New York City for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, and watching baseball and football. He was also a Little League coach in Downsville, and enjoyed playing the drums.

Joe is survived by his loving family, his wife, Mary Lou, son, Joseph M. (Carrie) Sullivan of Bainbridge, NY; Karen (Rich) Bell of Downsville, NY; Kathleen (Thomas) Robinson of NC; grandchildren, Ivy, Trent, Drew, Trevor, Logan, Hannah, Ryan, Elizabeth, brother, Anthony "Buff" and Theresa Sullivan of Staten Island; sister, Edith Sullivan of Staten Island; sister in law, Doris Sullivan of Staten Island; mother in law, Felicia Ferrara of Brooklyn; brother and sister in law, Patrick and Phyllis Ferrara of PA; Frances and Richard Marcano of Brooklyn; Christopher and Dee Ferrara, best friends, Richie and Regina Staubitz, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers, Ralph and Mike, sisters, Ann, Jo, and Palma.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton where services will be held a 1PM with Pastor Kent Terchunian, officiating. A graveside service will follow at 2:00 PM at Paige Cemetery, Downsville, with full military honors.
