Joseph Benjamin
Taft
April 12, 1933 – April 19, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Ben Taft announce his passing at age 93.He left this world peacefully on April 19, 2026. He was brought into this world on April 12, 1933 and given the name Joseph Benjamin Taft. His parents being Darwin and Lena Taft. He grew up as the youngest sibling having had three older sisters and two older brothers. Dorothy, Viola, Margaret, Darwin, and James all of which are deceased.
Ben was a loving father and grandfather, and a beloved friend to all, and was a kind soul who touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Ben was a most devoted loving husband cherishing his wife Helen and together they made a great team. Loving their sweet little home on Algerine Street in Afton and taking meticulous pride in his landscaped property and watching his beautiful flowers grow that he painstakingly planted each springtime. Feeding the birds and wildlife was a delight for he and his wife! Throughout the years, his love for animals since he was a kid never wanted as he had several dogs and cats in his lifetime. Every one of his Siamese cats were named "Sammy". Ben took his Sweetheart Helen for long rides in the countryside. Often stopping at their hangouts: Bob's Diner and Henry's where they enjoyed meeting friends and the simple joys of life. No matter the weather, Ben was a daily regular at Bob's Diner enjoying his coffee, reading the newspaper and visiting with the locals who rose early. He will definitely be missed by all that loved and knew him, as he was known for his witty remarks and humorous stories. He made you laugh even when you didn't want to. Ben was a lifelong employee of Borden's in Bainbridge and in his younger years, he was a "furnace", and oil delivery man for Morgan's in Afton. He had amid for mechanics and could fix and build nearly anything.
Ben is survived by his devout wife Helen. Daughters: Janette (Mick), Sandra (Joe), Valerie (Randy), and Susan. Sons: Joseph (Robin) and Ronald. Ben was preceded in death by his youngest son Thomas. He also had many Grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Special love to grandson Aric for all he did for his grandfather in times of need.
As we remember Ben, maybe telling an off-color joke or a kind pleasantry would be his wish!! A cold beer at Jerry's in his honor would do, too!!
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Courtney Funeral Home located at 25 Townsend St., Walton, NY. There will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Ben's name to the Chenango County Humane Society 6160 County Road 32, Norwich, NY 13815.
