IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Julia R.
Mahoney
May 30, 1919 – October 24, 2016
Julia R. Mahoney, 97, a longtime resident of Walton, NY, passed away Monday, October 24, 2016 at Robinson Terrace of Stamford, NY with her loving family by her side.
She was born Julia E. Regan on May 30, 1919 in Clifford Township, PA to Anthony and Verna Regan. She graduated high school at Scranton Central School. The first big job Julia had was working for IBM in Endicott, NY. She would take the train each week from Scranton to Endicott to work in the keypunch department. During World War II they were short of men in the plant so the women in the keypunch department were asked to go over and worked in the assembly line, which they did.
She belonged to the Abington's Women's Club of Clark Summit, PA. Julia met the love of her life, Francis (Frank) A. Mahoney, in 1937 at Hotel Casey's St. Patrick's Day dance. They married in 1943 and had 60 wonderful years together before his passing in 2003. Julia had two daughters, Kathleen and Sheila, who Francis and her loved dearly with all their hearts. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years giving her much happiness helping out the young girls.
Julia was the bookkeeper for St. John Baptist Catholic Church, Walton for 25 years and also worked Lane's Pharmacy, Walton for several years. She loved to knit and made scarves for over 60 people in Walton throughout the years. Julia belonged to the Walton Bowling League in the 1990's which gave her great happiness playing with all the teams. Julia was a faithful Walton Historical Society member for many years. In her 60's she learned to drive and just loved driving and the independence it gave her. For 4 years she drove to Binghamton each week to take care of her daughter Kathleen.
Since 5 years old Julia had a lifelong hearing disability yet was accepted and loved by all. She had a very successful and full life. Everyone who met Julia always said how sweet, caring, and loving she was. She taught us how to appreciate the little things in life. Mom loved all of nature from the smallest bug to the forest and sky. Julia's up there dancing with Dad and Kathy.
Julia is survived by her daughter, Sheila, her niece Deborah, her nephew, William and family, and nephew, Bobbie Mahoney and family. She is predeceased by her husband, Francis, daughter, Kathleen, and sisters, Mary and Catherine.
