Katherine Esther Eells, a lifelong resident of Walton, was called to her heavenly home on June 3, 2008, just days before her 99th birthday.

She was born on June 25, 1909 to Thomas and Mary Henderson and grew up on their dairy farm on East Brook Rd. She graduated from Walton High School in 1928 and spent one year at Geneva College. Her study focused on secretarial skills and she used them well during the 1930's, working and sending money home for improvements to the farm. She worked in Syracuse for a time and then spent several years at the Delaware County Children's Agency in Delhi.

In 1939 she married Dr. Walter Eells of Walton. They were married for 60 years. Not only was she a loving and devoted wife but also served as his right-hand-man in his medical practice for many years. She was a wonderful and godly mother to their three children: Eleanor, Robert and Kenneth, raising them in the fear of the Lord.

Throughout her life, Katherine was a dedicated member of the Walton Reformed Presbyterian Church where she taught Sabbath School for almost 50 years and served selflessly in may capacities. She also taught the Release-Time Program in the public schools, tutored adults with poor reading skills and contributed to the community in countless ways.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, her daughter, Eleanor, and her son, Kenneth. Katherine is survived by her son, Robert, nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren to date. She will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched, since many in the community knew her as a caring and generous woman.

Friends may call on the family on Monday evening, June 9, 2008 from 6 to 8 PM at Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton, NY.

Funeral services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday morning at the Reformed Presbyterian Church, Bruce & East Streets, Walton, with Rev. Brad Johnston and Rev. Robert Frazier officiating. Burial will take place at the Walton Cemetery.
