Katherine Gatje, 75, of Sidney Center passed away on Monday, September 8, 2014 at home, following a short illness.

Kathy was born on May 22, 1939 in Brooklyn, the daughter of the late Michael and Catherine (Toscano) Basta. She graduated from Brooklyn College with her Bachelors in Education. On September 21, 1974 she married David Gatje in Long Island, NY.

Katherine was an English Teacher for Bronx Vocational School in the East Bronx. She was a member of the Masonville Federated Church and previously was a member of the Trout Creek Community Church where she was very involved with the church, teaching Sunday school and was the vacation Bible School Director. She enjoyed quilting, making many beautiful quilts.

Katherine is survived by her loving husband, David.

Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 1PM at the Masonville Federated Church, Route 206, Masonville, with Rev. Jim Belt, officiating.
