Laverna P. Alger, 82, of Walton passed away on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Countryside Care Center in Delhi, following a long illness.

Laverna was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, on September 11, 1929, the daughter of the late Lancy and Goldie (Grubbs) Patterson. On November 26, 1949 she married Milton Alger.

Laverna enjoyed taking care of her family, she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. In her spare time she enjoyed running the family greenhouse, bowling in leagues, helping with the Boy Scouts, and taking care of her flower garden.

Laverna is survived by her loving family, her husband, Milton, her children, Pat (Jerry)Aitken of Walton; Mike Alger of Mount Upton; Susan (Dale) Stephens of Walton; David (Coral) Alger of Walton; Mark (Robin)Alger of Walton; Douglas Alger of Walton; Timothy Alger of Walton; her grandchildren, Steven, Stacey (Barry), Jason, Jenny Lynn, Jeffrey, Dereck, Anthony, Rebecca (Michael), Dale, Melissa, Jessie, her great grandchildren, Tanner, Bailey, Scarlet, Kylie, Meadow, Mackenzie, Gabe, her sister, Virginia LaRose, North Carolina; her sister and brother in law, Don and Thelma Cass, her special nephews and nieces, Jim and Anna Alger, Daniel LaRose, Pat and Charlotte Quinn; her cousins, Guy and Vicki Place, NC; Martha Meadows of Oneonta; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brother, Marshall Patterson, her sisters, Betty, Dorothy, Mildred, and Pat.

Friends and family are invited to call on Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, where services will be held on Monday, March 5, 2012, at 11AM with the Rev. Lisa Ruth Mays, officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery.
