Leland P. Wood, 91, a life-long Walton resident, passed away Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at the Countryside Care Center, Delhi, NY.

Leland was born in Beerston on August 26, 1915, the son of the late Theron and Celia (Kittle) Wood. He married Verna VanHeusen on April 13, 1937 at Walton, NY. Before retirement Leland was a production worker, employed by Scott Machine Development Corp. in Walton.

Leland was always known as an active person. As a young man he played Town Team baseball, softball, bowling in many leagues, and walking with his wife Verna. In his later years he continued walking with Verna, hunting, fishing, and took up golf at 75. He also enjoyed watching his grandson race cars at Fonda Raceway. He shot his last buck at 80 and went out West hunting at age 81. He was a faithful member of the the Walton First United Methodist Church.

Leland is survived by his wife: Verna Wood of Delhi, NY; two daughters: Gail ( Donald) Dungey of Wells Bridge, and Helen (Joseph) Rosa of Delhi, NY; one son: Kenneth (Shirley) Wood of Walton; two sisters, Dorothea Washburn and Harriet Hanyon; 11 Grandchildren: Ralph Wright, Donna Rigdon, Crystal Anderson, Tracy Wood, David Rosa, Eric Rosa, Edward Rosa, Gary Rosa, Frank Slawson, Gina O'Flynn and Amy Velez; 23 great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his son, Paul Wood, and 4 brothers; Jesse, Bernard, Millard and Howard; and 4 sisters, Elsie, Laura, Eleanor and Elaine.

Friends and family may call Thursday, May 31, 2007 from 6 to 8 PM at the Clark, Winter & Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church. 101 North Street, Walton with the Rev. Mark DelGiudice officiating. Burial will follow in Walton Cemetery
