Obituary

Leo E. Pierce, 82, a lifelong resident of Walton, passed away Saturday morning, January 12, 2013 at Bassett Healthcare of Cooperstown.

Leo was born on June 20, 1930 in Walton, the son of the late Earl H. and Bertha (Grant) Pierce. He married the former Irma Grotevant on October 17, 1953. She died on March 9, 2001. He and Irma owned the family farm in Mundale for 38 years. They also owned Pierce's Maple Products. Leo was a longtime Agway committeeman, a member of the Holstein Friesian Assn., the Walton Grange, Cornell Cooperative Extension and the 4H.

Leo enjoyed his family and friends, hunting, snowmobiling, 4 wheeling and making and selling woodcrafts and watching wildlife. He was also a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his loving family, three daughters, Linda and Kermit Mott, Deposit; Leona and Steve Jump of Bainbridge; Lorinda and Brian Backus of Trout Creek, two sons: Mike and Lisa Pierce of Ft. Myers, Florida; and Mark Pierce and Cherie Pomeroy of Walton; grandchildren, Scott and Sara, Chris and Mindy, Marcie, Eric and Christina, Amy and Warren, Bradley and Lori, Shawni and Brett, Lyndsay, Katie, Shane and Brynne, great-grandchildren, Mikalla, Chris Jr., Alice, William, Derrick, Logan, Oliver, Hayley, Leah, Brantley and Ty; a sister, Clara and Leon Dart, Otego; very special sisters and brothers in law, Al & Marian Barber, Walton; Bea Bennett, Walton; and Marion Pierce, Walton; several nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends, and his special pet, "Queenie". Leo was predeceased by a sister, Charlotte Cash, a brother, Carroll Pierce and a very special granddaughter, Brianna Backus.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday morning, January 15, 2013 at 11 AM at Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton, with the Rev. Bert More, officiating. A luncheon at the Walton Fire Dept. will follow the service.
