LeRoy B. "Bucky" Gray, 81, of Walton passed away on Wednesday evening, November 3, 2010 at Fox Hospital in Oneonta.
Bucky was born on April 2, 1929 in Walton, the son of the late ,William and Margaret (Knowles) Gray. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II from 1946 to 1948. On August 29, 1953 he married the former Dolores R. "Rae" Hood, in Walton.
He was employed as a supervisor by Breakstone's in Walton for 21 years and then went on to work for S. J. Bailey's in Walton, until he retired at the age of 63. Bucky was a member of the American Legion Truman C. Tobey Post 32 in Walton. He loved playing Bingo and video games. In his travels, Bucky was known as a kind and gentle man.
Bucky is survived by his loving family, his wife of 57 years, Rae of Walton; his daughters, Terry (Doyle) Helfrick of Waynesboro, PA and Tracey Budine of Carlisle, PA; his grandchildren, Kyle Budine of Hawaii; Jesse Budine of Hobart, Amanda Hahn of Fayetteville, PA, and Leslie Shreve of Carlisle, PA; one sister, Dorothy (Mitch) Elmore of Walton, special friend, Tink Budine; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bucky was predeceased by a son, Timothy Gray on September 4, 2002; a sister, Mabel Moore; and a brother William Gray.
Friends and relatives are invited to call on the family on Saturday evening, November 6, 2010, from 6 to 8 PM, at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, where funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Sunday afternoon, November 7, with the Rev. Jay O'Connor officiating. A graveside service will be held on Monday afternoon, November 8 at 3 PM with full military honors.
Memorial Contributions in Bucky's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 Adams Ave., Endicott, NY 13760, the Salvation Army, 25 River Street, Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the American Legion Truman C. Tobey Post 32, 10 Park St., Walton, NY 13856.
