Linda A. Houston, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving husband and children, Friday, November 30, 2012.
Linda was born on June 25, 1940 in Rock Rift, New York to William and Teresa Voorhies. She was predeceased by her infant daughter Kimberly Youmans, her daughters, Stacey Bryant, Tabitha and Sandee Houston; grandson LeMans Simpson and parents, William J. Voorhies and Teresa "Neer" Voorhies.
She graduated top of her class from Walton High School in Walton, New York in 1957 at the age of sixteen and went on to attend State University College at Oneonta in New York. She was voted most athletic by her peers and loved being a cheerleader and majorette. Linda worked as an AAFES retail manager and faithfully delivered the Macon Telegraph for twenty-two years. For over twenty years she dedicated her skills and energy as H&R Block office manager and tax preparer. Known affectionately by her family as "Linda Lou" she had a love for life, writing poetry, family, the outdoors and animals, especially cats. She actively donated to the Humane Society. She enjoyed the challenge of crossword puzzles and Jeopardy. Linda will most be remembered for her quick wit and beautiful smile that could light up a room.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving husband of twenty-eight years, William Houston; children, Jacque Simpson, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Traci Graham (Kenneth), Perrysburg, Ohio, Rick Youmans, Carlsbad, California, Jeff Youmans (Diana), Lizella, Georgia; Anthony Houston (Grace), Suisun, California, and Marcus Houston, Albuquerque, New Mexico; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Voorhies (Gale), Etowah, North Carolina and Chris Voorhies (Jennifer), Walton, New York; and special friend, Ronnie Simpson.
