Obituary

Loana "Loni" J. Markert, 65, of Downsville passed away on October 30, 2014 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

Loni was born April 17, 1949 in Walton, NY the daughter of Jessica Houck and the late Ray Stanley Houck, Sr. She was a graduate of Downsville Central School and SUNY Delhi. On November 11, 1974 she married Charlie Markert. He survives her.

Upon graduation from college, Loni worked at SUNY Oneonta for a number of years. Then she went to work selling real estate. She then managed the Roundup Ranch Resort in Downsville until its closing. Loni was a member of the Colchester Community United Methodist Church, and the Colchester and Delaware County Chambers of Commerce. She enjoyed going to auctions, tending to her flowers, and her many dogs she had over the years. Her greatest joy was her three grandsons.

Loni is survived by her loving family: Mother, Jessica Houck of Downsville; Husband Charlie Markert; Daughters Renee (Jeremy) Chapman of Fort Bliss, TX, and Jessica Markert and fiancé Joseph Baldauf of Downsville; Grandsons Grady, Bryce and Eli Chapman; Brothers Duane (Gloria) Houck of Walton, George (Beverly) Houck of Corbett, and Darryl (Vicki) Houck of Downsville; Sisters and Brothers-in-law Thomas (Julie) Markert of Downsville, Barbara (Jack) Black of Tinton Falls, NJ, Mary Jean of Little Rock, AR, Patty (Charlie) McCumpsey of Little Rock, AR, and Ruth Houck, Walton; several nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brothers Gerald Houck and Ray Stanley Houck, Jr.

Friends and family are invited to call on Monday, November 3, 2014 from 6PM to 8PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at 11:00AM the Colchester Community United Methodist Church, 15151 State Highway 206, Downsville with the Rev. Dale Ashby, officiating.
