Lucille A. Baxter, 97, a lifelong resident of Downsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

Lucille was born on July 6, 1916 in Fishes Eddy, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Nellie (Hartwell) Soules. She was married to Arland Baxter who predeceased her.

Lucille was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, her cats and dogs, and painting. Lucille's life revolved around her caring family and her warm, welcoming home.

Lucille is survived by her loving family, her children, Lonald Baxter of Harpursville; Gordon and Judith Baxter of Downsville; Carol and Richard Winters of Florida; Robert Baxter of Walton; her grandchildren; Gary and Phillip Baxter, Brenda Charles, David and James Baxter, Jess Young, Mike Finch, several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her brothers Raymond and Kenneth Soules, and Willard Mclure.

Friends and family are invited to call on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 11 AM to 1 PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton, where services will be held at 1PM with Pastor Dale Ashby officiating. Burial will take place in Paige Cemetery in the spring.

Lucille's family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Michael Freeman and the wonderful staff at the Mountainside Residential Care Center for the loving care Lucille received.
