Vanloan-Rogers
September 13, 1926 – August 8, 2015
Luella "Tillie" VanLoan-Rogers, 88, a longtime resident of Walton passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Roscoe Community Nursing Home. Luella was born on September 13, 1926 in Fishes Eddy, NY. She is the daughter of the late Howard and Florence (Wormuth) VanLoan. On July 28, 1946 she married Harold L. Rogers in Walton, New York. He passed away on November 3, 1972.
Luella was a volunteer and Pink Lady for over 40 years at Delaware Valley Hospital's gift shop. She was proud to be on the Broome Developmental Board of Visitors and to have received an award for 47 years of dedicated service for working with the mentally and physically disabled in New York State. Luella, most notably, may be known for her work in establishing the ARC in Delaware County. She often told stories of how it was formed in her kitchen. Above all, Luella was most honored to have had the opportunity to love so many children. She considered all of those in the Broome Developmental program as part of her own family.
She is survived by her two sons; Terence Rogers of Walton, and Scott Rogers of Walton; Daughter-in- law, Leah Rogers of Mt. Vernon, IA; Brother; Thurston VanLoan of Walton; Sister-in-law; Helen (Harold) Caffery of Walton and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband, Harold L. Rogers, son, Clark Rogers, sister, Beulah Chambers and brother, Donald VanLoan.
Friends and family are invited to call on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 from 5PM to 7PM at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend Street, Walton. Funeral services will be held at the New Hope Community Church on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at 11AM with Pastor Larry Light, officiating. Burial will follow in the Walton Cemetery, 55 Fancher Avenue, Walton.
